One of the things I have learned to do with web design is how to obtain images. There are many different ways an image can be obtained or made. You can use a digital camera to take pictures for your site or just use a scanner to upload ones you already have. Then people who have Fireworks, or some similar program, can create an original image for their site. There is also the favored choice of going onto the web to find a specfic image, keep in mind of copyright laws if you resort to this method. Shown below are examples of each one of these images.

Here is an example of a picture I took with a digital camera. I was practicing a technique called moving in close. This is used to prevent anything from distracting being in the image, that may unwantedly catch the viewers attention. There are various other techniques used when taking pictures. Besides the one I used for this picture, there is also the rule of thirds, avoiding distracting backgrounds, framing, and locking the focus.

This is an example of an image that is found on the web. It is a picture of old Chicago. The image is in the public domain, allowing me to display it without worrying about angering someone.

Heres an example of an image made in Fireworks. I made this in hopes of resembling music notes for a logo. The nice thing about these custom made images is there is little worry for copyright laws as it is your own work. I even included my own design as well. Along with these are various effects that can be used. An example is shadow, glow, or emboss.
